Guns On The Streets
If smoking is banned from advertising, why not guns…?
The photo that started it… when I started to see and ask the question, if smoking is banned from advertising, why not guns?
Once you start noticing, you'll be surprised how often and where you see them. If smoking is banned from advertising, why not guns?
If the Mayor of London can ban junk-food advertising, surely the mayor could ban weapons in advertising…?
Under, Weapons in ads for other products, the UK Advertising Standards Authority advises: "Ads that are not for weapons but show images of weapons, such as ads for computer games, films, TV programmes, should ensure that they do not promote violence or anti-social behaviour by depicting weapons in a threatening context or in a manner that could be seen to be glamorising violence." https://www.asa.org.uk/advice-online/weapons-general.html
It completely defeats me as to why Lockheed Martin need to, or are allowed to, advertise their F-35 jump jet on the back of a bus in South East London?
I have nothing against these films or actors. I object to guns on posters in public… If you can ban tobacco advertising, why not weapons?

Were you to walk down the street like this you would be arrested, why is it ok to show it in a movie poster? You can’t show smoking...
It makes you think...
It’s not just guns that should be banned from advertising but all weapons...
Using guns to sell a TV show, movie or computer game should never be justified...
It doesn’t matter how subtle they appear or that they’re being pointed without even looking, guns in advertising should be banned, they cannot be justified
Do you think he’s counting how many guns are on this poster…? There should be no guns on any posters
Change your world... remove weapons from advertising. Juxtaposition is always interesting.
Don’t you just love standing at a bus stop and being threatened with a bullet to the head...? Remove weapons from advertising.
Ads for computer games, films, TV programmes, should ensure that they do not promote violence or anti-social behaviour by depicting weapons in a threatening context or in a manner that could be seen to be glamorising violence…
Make that 4…
Even if it’s cropped, it’s still there...
We get closer to and spend more time with posters on bus stops than probably anywhere else...
Bus stop outside primary school…
Smoking in advertising was once considered cool…
@mayorofldn Give it a shot... We don’t need these gun-toting images on our transport system. Please ban them.
It is elementary that this is threatening…
Subtlety is no excuse, if the weapon is unholstered it’s threatening… @mayorofldn Surely a good first step in reducing violence is by restricting images of it…?
If you’re seeing it, so are many others around the world…

Ooh, what night’s that then? These messages will communicate with some. One night a year all crime is NOT legal…
_
Welcome to your local supermarket...
I always appreciate some graceful skating, but not assault weapons on bus stops…
_
Don’t just lower your weapons while the innocent walk on by… loose them all together.
Smart is always the first to know…
@channingtatum is cute enough to sell a movie without brandishing a weapon…?
@channingtatum Smoking in advertising was once considered cool…
Irony is no excuse, surely Channing Tatum is cute enough to sell a movie without needing a gun @mayorofldn Please ban weapons from advertising.
Give the Girl the Gun…
Is this fortitude…?
Tobacco & Lottery… carefully controlled…
Thanks…
This was only the 18th Instagram posting with #socialmediatoo two months after taking the photograph. @The ASA advises: Ads should ensure that they do not promote violence or anti-social behaviour by depicting weapons in a threatening context or in a manner that could be seen to be glamorising violence.
